We decided we wanted to name Rio something patriotic since he was born on September 11th. Our first idea was Koda's Land of the Free and call him Lando. Plus that would keep with our Star Wars theme (Chewy), but he so obviously was not a Lando!! So we kept thinking. The performance part came from his sire's name. Patriot performance is some sort of racing car part, so that was sort of fitting too. We tried calling him Riot for 2 days. It just didn't work. It was strange, I've never had such a hard time naming a dog before! Once we dropped the 't', everything fell into place.

Rio was a mamma's boy right from the start. Needs to know where I am at all times. He threw a temper tantrum when he was 6 months old. Took us a while to figure it out, but we are pretty sure we'd never told him 'no' before!! Spoiled baby!!

He hasn't really gotten the hang of lure coursing yet. Just doesn't get why he should chase a bag! He goes crazy watching, but he wants to chase the dogs, not the bag. We will try again though.

He is super smart. Catches on to new things real quick. It's just a matter of does he want to do this now? Down was very difficult. He just refused. Until one day I worked with all 4 dogs at once- whoever laid down first got the treat. It worked!! Rio wanted in on it! So now he lays down on cue, he just makes it seem like its so far to go down all the way!!

Rio loves to meet people and dogs. He is definitely not affectionate to new folk like the boxer boys are, but he needs everyone within his personal space to acknowledge and adore him, then he is happy and can go take a nap!
